#10 - The Beatles - The Beatles (White Album)

Artist: The Beatles
Album: The Beatles(The White Album - 2009 mono remaster)
Best Song: Blackbird
Worst Song:

Why RS gets it right:

Some truly iconic songs in this double album.
Why RS gets it wrong:
Reading a bit on the back-story, it's not suprising that this album is such hit or miss.
I really don't much care for most of George Harrison's stuff.
Is it Awesome?:
I wouldn't call it Awesome, Awesome is a pretty strong word- but I'd call it good.

#8 The Clash - London Calling

Artist: The Clash
Album: London Calling
Best Song: Train in Vain
Worst Song: Kola Kola

Why RS gets it right:
Really knows how to rock out, definitely an impassioned performance. The Clash has alot more depth than I had given them credit for, the title track is probably the only song I had heard on this album beforehand, and I had erroneously concluded that it was all going to sound like that, fortunately The Clash has a lot more depth than that.

Why RS gets it wrong:

I'm not sure what it is about the 80's that made it okay for singers to suck, but this is another album that fits that description, if they had a singer who didn't sound like he was falling down drunk the whole time, it would be a pretty good album. Alot of the songs seem to go on forever for no reason, seems like they never learned how to end a song. The more I listen to this album the less I like it.

Is it Awesome?: No, it's really not that good.

#7 The Rolling Stones - Exile on Main Street

Artist: The Rolling Stones
Album: Exile on Main Street
Best Song: Sweet Virginia
Worst Song: Let It Loose
Why RS gets it right:
This is a great, toe-tapping album that is fun to listen to, lots of upbeat tracks to jam out too.

Why RS gets it wrong:
Once again not as much depth as I'd like to see in an album, According to Wikipedia Mick Jagger agrees.
I'm not a hudge fan of Mick Jagger's voice on this album, and the mixing certianly doesn't help. I might try and get a different mix latter.

Is it Awesome?:
Borders on being awesome, but really just a solid album.

#6 Marvin Gaye - What's Going On

Artist: Marvin Gaye
Album: What's Going On
Best Song: God Is my Love
Worst Song: Flying High (just doesn't seem to go anywhere)
Why RS gets it right:
Marvin Gaye, has an incredible sound and this album is really fun to listen to, he's very soulful and the album is a delight.

Why RS gets it wrong:
While I like Marvin Gaye's sound quite a bit, his songs all kind of sound the same.. I wish he explored more musically.

Is it Awesome?: Yes.

#5 The Beatles - Rubber Soul

Artist: The Beatles
Album: Rubber Soul
Best Song: In My Life/Michelle
Worst Song: Norwegian Wood
Why RS gets it right:
Yeah, it's another beatles album, not really a bad song on this one.
Why RS gets it wrong:

I guess my biggest complaint is that I've herd all of these songs so many times before, that they kind of loose their freshness/appeal.
Is it Awesome?:
Yes.

#4 Bob Dyaln - Highway 61 Revisted

Artist: Bob Dylan
Album: Highway 61
Best Song: Like a Rolling Stone
Worst Song: It Takes a lot To Laugh, It Takes a Train To Cry

Why RS gets it right:
Incredible song writing (even if some of the melodies are traditional folk songs, and not bob dylan's creation)

Why RS gets it wrong:

Bob Dylan's voice is just kind of lousy, it's a true testament to his skill that he still is so good despite it.

Is it Awesome?:
Yeah, it's pretty darn good!

#3 The Beatles - Revolver

Artist: The Beatles
Album: Revolver
Best Song: Good Day Sunshine
Worst Song: Love You Too (George Harrison's Indian influenced bit)

Why RS gets it right:
This is just all around an awesome album, all the songs are good, it's perfect Beatles form.

Why RS gets it wrong:

They don't this is a great album.

Is it Awesome?:
Yes.

#2 Beach Boys - Pet Sounds

Artist: The Beach Boys
Album: Pet Sounds
Why Rolling Stone gets it right:
While this isn't my favorite album, it's certianly a landmark in music history, for being one of the first concept albums as well as using innovative recording and mastering techniques. Not only that, but it contains quite a few iconic songs. (Wouldn't it be nice, God Only Knows, etc.)

Why Rolling Stone gets it wrong:

In typical beach boys fashion this album is saccharine, but well that's the beach boys style, and music doesn't have to be all serious and moody all the time.

Best song: Sloop John B/Let's go away for a while.

Worst song:
I know theirs an answer

Is it awesome?: Yes

#1 - The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band

Artist: The Beatles
Album: Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
Best Song: Getting Better
Worst Song: Within you without you(really not that bad).

Why RS gets it right:
What best of anything chart wouldn't start out with the beatles or something by the Beatles. I'd like to be argumentative and say that they should have reached to find something more original, but I guess I have to agree that that the Beatles are the greatest rock band of all time. Honestly I haven't listened carefully to the different albums (yet) so I can't tell you if this is there best one, but I certainly have enjoyed pretty much every song on the album.

Why RS gets it wrong:

Couldn't have been more predictable, other eras of music should get more consideration.

Is it Awesome?:
Yes, quite.

The Project

So I've been casually listening to Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums, and then I ran across this site: http://500albumsrjg.blogspot.com/ and decided I'd completely rip off the idea, for much the same reason, to help broaden my musical horizons and to keep a record of which albums I liked. For now I'm going to go ahead and keep the same questions, but perhaps I'll modify it in the next couple days.. The questions for each album are:

* Artist
* Album
* Why Rolling Stone gets it right:
* Why Rolling Stone gets it wrong:
* Best song:
* Worst song:
* Is it awesome?:
